Most of DPA pencil mic solutions allow you to mix and match the different mic capsules together with the preamps so you can create the right solution for your specific situation.

The capsules range all the way from omnidirectional to supercardioid so there is a pick up pattern for any type of performance. DPA has a quite a few preamps in different sizes and shapes to make the solutions as flexible as possible.

MMC2006 Twin Diaphragm Omni Capsule

The MMC2006 is a linear omnidirectional mic capsule. The distinctive sound is well balanced. This capsule bridges the gap between the extreme sound quality of the Pencil Microphones series and our well-known Miniature Microphones in the Lavalier and Headset series. Inside this capsule, two opposite-facing miniature capsules are custom rebuilt. They are placed into a double-diaphragm, one-capsule composition. This combines the advantages of small capsules with the lower inherent noise achieved from a larger diaphragm area. These capsules provide fast impulse response and large frequency bandwidth.

Comparisons with its big brother, the iconic MMC4006 capsule, are inevitable. The relationship between the two can be clearly heard. The MMC2000 series performs as well as more exclusive microphones. It is a premium-class mic capsule and redefines the term value for money.

MMC2011 Twin Diaphragm Cardioid Capsule

The MMC2011 is a directional mic capsule. The distinctive sound of this microphone is well balanced. MMC4006 Omni Capsule

The MMC4006 is a linear omnidirectional mic capsule. There is no other mic in the world as lauded as it is.

This microphone offers total transparency in any recording situation. It picks up incredible detail and depth of sound. The definition of its high-frequency characteristics across a wide range of instruments is impressive. It offers natural sound, high sensitivity, low noise-floor and extremely linear frequency response from 10 to 20 kHz (±2 dB).

MMC4011 Cardioid Capsule

The principal appeal of the MMC4011 Cardioid Mic Capsule is its directional quality and attention to detail. This mic makes everything sounds like the original. The first-order cardioid pickup pattern provides superb separation between sound sources. It is equally suitable for close-up work on acoustic guitar, grand piano, overheads, percussion, wind instruments and vocals as it is for spot-miking symphonies. It can handle incredibly high sound levels.

A flat on-axis frequency response and excellent phase response deliver a totally faithful reproduction of the original sound. The off-axis response is similarly smooth so that any leakage is an accurate reflection of the original, though attenuated according to the true first-order cardioid pickup pattern.

MMC4015 Wide Cardioid Capsule

If you are already a Pencil 4011 Series devotee, you will discover an exciting alternative in DPA's wide cardioid microphones. The MMC4015 Wide Cardioid Microphone Capsule differs in its polar pattern and is the perfect fill-in between an omnidirectional and a more directional microphone. The off-axis characteristics of the MMC4015 are totally linear, a unique quality when it comes to authentic sound reproduction. Any leakage that occurs from off-axis sound sources is still a faithful reproduction of these sounds, just softly attenuated.

Sometimes a conventional cardioid pattern just isn’t quite open enough. Recording orchestras or other ensembles sometimes requires a compromise between blending in the room reverberation and a more precise localization. When recording instruments with complex radiation patterns, the wide cardioid design covers a greater sound angle and is an excellent choice.

MMC4018 Supercardioid Capsule

The MMC4018 has a highly directional supercardioid pickup pattern with a smooth and uniform off-axis frequency response. The supercardioid shape is frequency independent, securing an identical sound color around the microphone. The usual rear lobe heard on most supercardioids is minimized on this capsule. This makes it much more isolated without sudden frequency dependent peaks and dips.

Designed for a broad range of long-distance broadcast, ENG and film miking applications, such as booming, dialogue, interview and table or podium use, the MMC4018 Supercardioid Microphone Capsule offers superb flexibility through modular accessories. The mic is also ideal for use as a spot or hanging mic for orchestra recording situations.
